The latest Pokemon GO datamine includes a handful of lines that reference a Premier Cup. At this point, very little is known about what this feature or event may be, but there are some hints in the code that was spotted. Apparently, the Premier Cup may have something to do with PvP tournaments that limit roster eligibility based on the timing of when Pokemon were caught by the trainer.

This is a pretty interesting idea and plays off of some similar Pokemon tournaments that have taken place in real life for the main line games. It’s easy to imagine Niantic hosting a special event with unique spawns and bonuses and then following it up with a PvP tournament that limits players to Pokemon caught during that special event. This would definitely encourage event participation and it would give PvP experts a nice added challenge to keep things interesting.

As always, keep in mind that datamined information is subject to change. Niantic has not made any announcements about Premier Cup features, so we’re still fully in the realm of speculation and the final product or release could be very different from what we’re seeing in the datamined code today…
